Obituary for Thomas M. Hasssell

Thomas "Tom" M. Hasssell, 65, of Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Edenton, NC on December 7, 1951, to Esther Marie and the late John C. Hassell.

He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church.

Tom was a self-employed commercial painter. He graduated from Garden Spot High School, class of 1969 and attended Southwood College in North Carolina. He also served four years in the Navy. Tom enjoyed the Warwick to Ephrata Rail Trails, was an avid Eagle's football fan and loved vacationing in the Outer Banks.

In addition to his mother, Tom is survived by 3 siblings, Maxine C., wife of Dennis E. Lapp of Akron, Tim N., husband of Kathy (Butner) Hassell of Brunnerville, Jim K., husband of Christine V. (Auker) Hassell of Akron and numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, from 10 to 11 AM at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 North Ninth Street, Akron, followed by funeral services at 11 AM with Pastor Jim Bongard officiating. Interment will take place in the Mt. Zion Evangelical Cemetery with military honors accorded by Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions in Tom's memory may be made to Warwick Township (Memo Line: Trail Rail), 315 Clay Road, Lititz, PA 17543, to help continue and maintain the Warwick to Ephrata Rail Trail.
