Obituary for Doris E. White

Doris E. White
Doris E. White, 80, of Cornwall Manor, Cornwall, formerly of Ephrata and Columbia, continued her life's journey as she walked into the arms of Jesus on Friday, September 22, 2017.

Born March 31, 1937 in Doylestown, she was the daughter of the late E. Paul and Florence C. (Lenters) White. She was a graduate of Columbia High School, class of 1955, Lebanon Valley College and Temple University. She was a teacher in Red Lion, Norristown and Eastern Lancaster County School districts. She kept in touch with many former students through Facebook and visits from them.

Doris was an independent lady who loved her family, her many friends, her pets, the outdoors, her vegetable gardens, wildlife, both plants and animals, and traveling. She was a member of Ephrata First United Methodist Church where she served on the Administrative Board, Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Scouting Representative and Funeral Luncheon Committee at various times through the years.

A lifelong Girl Scout, she earned the highest honor: First Class-Curved bar as a girl, Thanks badge I and Thanks Badge II as an adult, and the Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA award. She received a 75 year pin. She was a leader of Cadette and Senior Girls Scouts for over 25 years and served on the Foxfire and Archives Teams for both Penn Laurel and GSHPA. Serving as a camp counselor, she took girls on canoe trips down the Susquehanna River and backpacking trips on the Appalachian Trail, in addition to teaching them about living in the outdoors, loving nature and appreciating history. She served her Alma Mater, Lebanon Valley as Alumni Ambassador and received the D.Clarke Carmean Award in Admission in 2006.

After retiring she traveled to Europe several times as well as many parts of the United States. She especially enjoyed the Girl Scout Roundup Reunions held in Vermont and Colorado Springs. She also kept herself busy tracing her family history from England and Germany.

Doris is survived by one sister, Joan, wife of Donald Hogentogler of Avon, CT; a niece and two nephews and their families; numerous cousins; her close friends Ken and Norma Higginbotham, and her beloved cat, Buster.

Friends and family are invited to attend her memorial service at First United Methodist Church, 68 N. Church Street, Ephrata, PA 17522 on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 11 AM, with a visitation prior, starting at 10 AM. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family and friends in Hatboro Cemetery, Hatboro, PA.
