Esther F. White, 90, of Denver, went to meet her heavenly father on Saturday, November 25, 2017.

She was born on June 21, 1927, in Ephrata township, to the late Stephen and Sallie (Frederick) Hertzog. She was the youngest of 11 children.

Esther married the late Norman E. White on July 20, 1946. They were married for over 52 years.

She was the mother of 6 children, Janet, wife of Robert Orth of Ephrata, Jean, wife of Ronald Risser of Denver, the late James, husband of Heidi (Haller) White of Ephrata, Joan, wife of Curtis Unruh of Denver, Jane, wife of the late Barry Hoshour of Bowmansville and Judy, wife of Paul Dubiansky of Apex, North Carolina. She the was the grandmother of Thomas and Norman Karol, Stephen, Anthony and Christopher Risser, James and John White, Katie (Unruh) Vang and Ryan Unruh, Michael and Molly Hoshour, Katherina, Aaron and Sonia Dubiansky. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandson, 2 great-great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Esther enjoyed crocheting. She crocheted hundreds of afgans, prayer shawls and doilies, most of which were given away. She also loved to read and do seek-a-word books, listening to Gospel music and going to Gospel concerts. She was a member of Akron Church of the Brethren for over 60 years, there she sewed many quilts with the quilting group "the Ugly Quilters." She enjoyed the Brickerville Leisure Hours group, day trips and visiting friends. Esther loved to drive and go shopping. Her and her husband enjoyed traveling to Florida. She had the time of her life when she went on her first cruise in 2002. She sent out hundreds of greeting cards as the Sunshine Lady in her Sunday School Class. She also taught Children's Sunday School for a number of years. Esther had a green thumb. Many-a-plant came back to life under her care. She loved watching her Elephant Ear Plants grow to huge sizes in the summer. She made delicious corn pies, applesauce, crab cakes and ham and string beans.

Esther was a hard worker. She was employed by several different sewing factories in the Ephrata area including Dutchmaid and Atlas. After moving to Bowmansville in 1973 she worked at Harting's Bakery for about 15 years. Esther and Norman lived in several houses that Norman built himself. The last one they lived in was near Bowmansville where many holiday get together's were held.

Esther rarely missed anyone's birthday or anniversary. She loved her children, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces and nephews tremendously.

In addition to her husband Norman, who passed in 1990, Esther was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters, Paul, Raymond, Stella, Elmer, Henry, Fred, Sadie, Levi, Mabel and Grace; a son, James and a son-in-law, Barry.

The family would like to thank Hospice and the staff at Ephrata Manor for their kind and compassionate care.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the Akron Church of the Brethren, 613 Main Street, Akron, followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tom Weber officiating. Interment will take place in the Middle Creek Cemetery.
