Eugene D. "Gene" Smith, 57, of Stevens, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Lancaster General Hospital.

He was born in New Brunswick, NJ to the late Joseph Phillip and Marie Daisy (Disbrow) Smith and was the husband of Sally (Hart) Smith, with whom he just celebrated 33 years of marriage on March 9th.

Gene loved scuba diving and traveled all over the world doing so. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, kicking back in the hot tub with a beverage in his hand, and spending time with his family and friends. Gene will be remembered for his caring nature and his fun loving personality.

Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He and his wife owned Perfect Dreamer Sleep Shop and iDeal Furniture in Akron.

In addition to his wife, Eugene is survived by a daughter, Ashley, wife of Tyler Griffith of Reinholds; 3 siblings, Joseph Smith of Ephrata, Daniel Smith of Ephrata, and Viola, wife of Tom Zborowski of Long Valley. He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose, wife of Ron Bakitas of Reinholds.

A viewing will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018, from 2 to 6 pm at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver. A prayer service will take place at 4:30 pm, with Vince Verdegum officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
